POWER TOOLS is an immersive installation creating an intimate experience with the everyday objects
that power our devices. Plugs, power strips, and USB chargers have been reimagined as large scale
soft sculptures which double as interactive plush furniture inviting pause, relaxation and reflection.
PLUGGED IN (Two-Pronged), a group of sheer, hand-sewn scaled up models of the omnipresent electrical
dangle overhead visitors. PLUGGED IN (Three-Pronged) is a fluffy, white oversized interpretation of
the equally ubquitous grounded plug awaits curled up into a doubled version itself.
The centerpiece of this work is POWER TOOLS, a massive, stuffed, zoomorphic six-terminal power strip.
It’s surrounded by equally cuddly adaptors akin to iPhone USB power supplies. This work is presented
with a series of slides exploring the plugs’ formal qualities. The 3D models are the starting point
for creating the sewing patterns and related drawings for these soft sculptures.
In the installation they appear in various configurations: superimposed, serialized, distorted.
